Retribution
Domestic abuse affects approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK. It is a subject that is being talked about more and more, yet the conversation is still focused largely on the victim. Rarely does the conversation turn to the perpetrator and even rarer is the actions of society acknowledged. Even poetry on the subject is victim orientated, with most being victim’s accounts of what they experienced.

I too am a survivor of domestic abuse, a victim, but I’m not here to tell my story. I’m here to break the unwritten rule of societal silence. This collection of poems is about domestic abuse, but from a different angle. An angle that shines a light back in society’s face, calls out the hypocrisy and double standards, and shows what it is really like to be a survivor in a victim orientated world.
